That's a really good question. On my last couple of builds the color decision took months to finalize. So here is what i think about this one. I like the color of this Tacoma for the bottom half and pastel white from the waist up. If i add black wheel and the black roof camping set up it might off set such a sedate color. Maybe a vinyl enlarged tire tread pattern going diagonal. I could also do Savanah Beige and Pastel white. What do you all think??

you might consider L91D Kansas beige. Used on type 2 in 71-72 (usually in a two tone.) real nice subtle color.

I like that color, with the graphics that are going on it I want a pretty simple back drop for them.

Cool project. Any updates?

Have you considered trying to mount the subaru rear diff on the bay beam like the AWD prototypes?

Thats a really cool thread, I like how he mounted the front diff but its even
more impressive cutting the rear torsion tube and extending the outer ends like the beetle. So many ideas are running through my mind now.

Sometimes when you have to many project the important ones get neglected. I have put all of them aside in order to focus on the bus. For someone with high levels energy its not always easy. The last couple of nights I have been sanding in preparation for paint. I also welded in tabs to mount the panel to cover the front A/C unit.

I have been trying to figure out how to mount the kitchen in the trailer. This is one idea I had. My concern is the weight might disotort the door. What do you think?

I have also decided on a color for the bus and trailer, Olive Drab on the bottom and pastel white on the top and inside.

How about this for a match on for the interior seat inserts? The only downside is its $85 a yd. Ouch, that will be over $500 in plaid just for the front seats and rear Z-bed if I combine it with some vinyl.

With only 5 days to go to paint the updated list is still pretty long. Tomorrows work will give me a good idea of what I need to do before spraying on Thursday. Not sure if I mentioned that I will be going into paint this Thursday, I have allowed myself 4 days to get the body and doors completed. Should be enough time. Here is tomorrows list and the patch panel to cover where the spare tire went. It still needs to be trimmed up and panel bonded down.

I also went shopping today at the paint store. Just like that $500 and I didn't even get the paint yet. I will pick up the two colors of paint on Monday which should run about $1100 just for the base coat and reducer. I see why quality paint jobs are so expensive.

4 days left and the list got a whole lot smaller today. still some big items to go but I feel much better about making the Thursday deadline.

I was able to prep a mixing table for when I am spraying. still need to get the paint but these are most the items I will need for the rest of this phase

now that the entire bus is sanded I applied Oshpho to all the raw metal surfaces to neutralize any microscopic rust. Just trying to get ahead of any future issues.

This photo is one of those that I love about this bus. The white glob was put on when the speedo was installed and is more evidence that the paperwork is correct and this body had only 6000 miles on it when It was put away in 1978. My thought is it had its first major service they would have repacked the front bearings and removed the factory silicone. You should see how all the seals and gaskets look on the under carriage. I will still rebuild them but darn it, this thing is so clean.

$1600 later I am ready to spray. Now if I can finish my work week and start my vacation. BTW Olive Drab does not cross reference to color charts these days because it was a military color. This is the closest I could find. Did you know that there are 100's of green colors!

I still need to strip them but one has an earlier center pattern that I haven't seen before. I wonder what it went on?

I didn’t know it cost that much for paint nowadays, you better prep it the good way and avoid any reaction 😬
But I guess it’s not your 1st time.
Did you rent a cabin for this or will you let the paint cure at room temperature?
