Any chance of uploading the photos to The Samba rather than to SmugMug? They'd load a lot quicker for most of us, and won't eventually get lost in the mists of time. _________________ Jim Crowther

And... it won't start. Blegh...
Time to fix the wiring, this is what I'm dealing with - All the plugs were cut off at the steering column and gauges:
I bought a wiring harness but its from an older van (with the "european" fuses) so not quite all the wiring is the same.
Not sure if I should cut my harness and just start splicing or if I should remove the cut wires, and replace the whole thing. That kinda sounds like a nightmare. |

There are so many things wrong with the van i'm not even sure I want to list them, but I will post some fixes.
We got it running about 12 hours after it showed up.
Fixed the non-ratcheting parting brake handle (thanks to samba-ists)
We got it drive-able within the week.
Found this:
Put these one (yeah it had no pop-top hinges or latch)
The best helper you could ask for
Next thing i need to do is get the wiring sorted out around the gauges, and steering column. ALL of them were cut. It's a real heart breaker.
But My first goal is to know the temp of the engine, and ... fuel level? |

Titian, while mixing red madder
had his model mount high up a ladder.
The position, thought Titian
was just right for coition
so he went up the ladder and had her. _________________ Shop for unique Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

I think it's Titian red, after the painter.
That's quite a project! It'll be awesome to see it come back to good working order. |
Wow you are SO right:
Titian Red Metallic - LB3V
My brain read it as "Titan" and now it has a name! |

Well, I did it again.
I bought a pretty sorry Westy.
The good news: Subuaru 2.2 Cali legal
SubuaruGears
LSD Diff.
The bad news is kinda everything else!
Best way to think of this is "theft recovery".
Well we'll get 'er back on the road!
My 11 year old and I got it running after jumping the wires and bypassing the ignition.
That white thing on the dash is the ignition switch.
Not the custom wiring! (more on that to come, it's worse than you think!)
I immediately tore out and disposed of the "laminate" floor.
It has some water damage and was half ripped up by the PO.
There is some good stuff in there, we'll get to that after a good cleaning.
If you have the urge to put bed liner on stuff ... just ... DON'T.
Floor Removed and vacuumed.
Passenger seat is a combination of a couple of seats, but should work. Tomorrow we'll build the Driver seat.
I sourced for this already some:
Seats, poptop latch, poptop hinges, gauges, wiring harness (this one was cut)
I'm making a list of what it needs:
Handles and locks, ignition, etc, all the way around (there are no keys).
Missing some latch mechanisms (passenger door, and lift gate (???))
- Passenger door doesn't close
Did you notice there was kinda no interior?
Upper bunk
Steering column
Emergency brake stuff (does not click and stay in place)
It's a bit of a mess, but I'm hoping to make fast progress on it.
I have never had a car painted but when this got delivered I was like "oh this is the one."
I might paint it in my driveway if someone can give me a paint source for "Titan Red"!
