I'm in the middle of replacing the front driver's side axle on an '89 Syncro. Inner boot was torn on the high side although for how long I don't know as it never knocked or made noise and there didn't look to be any grease thrown around. When I got the CV off and cleaned up I found it to be Lobro with the following ID: 251 501 331, and LOBRO 1688 W - GERMANY. Inner boot was black Lobro. Outer boot looks yellowish and is also Lobro. Are these worth saving? Also, how do I get the flange off the joint? It's stuck on there pretty good. Thanks, all.

Regrease both CVs and put on a new boot as long as they pass visual inspection.

I’m general replacement boots are a challenge, lots of discussions on the topic. But I would recommend putting new boots on while you have it off. That yellow one is probably the thermoplastic original. If Your van is stock height and not lifted the newer replacement boots stand a better chance of lasting. I just replaced mine and can give you some recommendations and others will too, bit time will tell how they last. |
