Fuel Sending Unit need sprucing up?
1) Since you are working with electricity, disconnect the ground cable from the battery whether it needs to be or not
2) Disconnect the wires and take some steel wool to that crusty top
3) Puzzle over what that little leftover piece of plastic smutz might be
4) Shrug shoulders and scrap it off
5) Read about how Fuel Sending Unit works (important to do this after fooling with as doing so before might belong in the How To category)
6) Fish deeply into your garbage for that little piece of insulating smutz
7) Put it back on
