Is there an old post or does someone know how to get the top off of the steering wheel in a 74 sunbug SB? It is a special wheel that year.
Thanks.

Isn't the same as the steering wheel as other Beetles of the same year? _________________ Glenn

My understanding is that it is a special wheel for the sunbug. It has the castle on it in the center and is padded.

Assuming you mean the horn button, you simply dig your fingers (don’t use a tool) between the horn button and the front body of the housing. Dig in and pull one corner until it comes up, then do the same for the other three corners.
However, with the 1974, you have only done half the job. Once the four corners are up, you must turn the horn button about 90 degrees counterclockwise. This will allow you to pull the horn button off completely. Remember to unhook the horn wire before pulling off completely.
I always put a little dielectric grease on the edges of the four round tabs that hold the button on. This makes it easier to remove it—without breaking one of the tab edges.

Thanks. Do I go under the silver trim or between the silver trim and the upper black part? I assume you are familiar with the sunbug wheel? I can send a pic if needed.
