when looking at the catalogues, they all say that the main door bolts for the front are 8x18mm... doesnt give me a thread pitch.
Anyone know if these are 1.0, 1.25, 1.5? I want to start replacing the sensitive bolts with stainless steel and dont have a good read on which pitch to buy.

Thanks!

For lack of an actual answer....

IIRC, those types of bolts are used in many places on a Vanagon. So, an appropriate stainless M8 bolt should be available at an Ace Hardware or Home Depot. Take the old bolt and match up by eye? My guess is it's a 1.25 per inch thread count.

Neil.

Standard M8 IS 1.25mm thread pitch.
Fine thread is M8-1.0 mm ultra fine is M8-0.75 mm, no coarse thread

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_metric_screw_thread

VW partnr for those M8x18mm bolts is N 01023911 which means a high tensile 8.8 structural grade bolt

Be sure you get the correct strength bolts to replace the stock ones.

You might want some Tuff Gel. Stainless hardware can be extremely frustrating to work with. The threads have a tendency to gall on assembly. I suggest going to an online company like Mc Master Carr to compare bolt strength. While unlikely, in an accident, the doors are part of the structure. Wouldn’t want a fastener to fail.

As Mark alluded, stainless steel bolts will not meet the strength/safety requirements in that application.

Hi Neil!

No evil inch in metric hardware. 1.25mm per turn is what it means Wink
