Just picked up some headlights last night that were in a barn...The woman told me they came off her parents ‘60 bus they bought new. However, she also had a story she was foggy about with a relative with an early vw. And something about France etc... I got to ask her if she can get more info.. anyway, got a nice OG OG paint mirror arm and A maintenance stamp book with some French stamping.
I’m puzzled by the headlights though and was wondering if anyone seen any like it. Seems like they may be 1955. Maybe for a beetle. They’ve been in a barn forever and I haven’t had a chance to clean them up. They are a fluted headlight but don’t have the round circle in the middle, but rather a horizontal line in the glass is mirrored pretty much from the line down. They are hella’s with a VW logo at the top. They also have the reflectors inside with yellow bulbs. |

are there numbers on the glass above the hella logo? _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

You can rule out bus because the flutes are vertical rather than horizontal. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

So I knew that they were likely French market headlights. And they’ve been dated to 1954. What I think weird is that the glass has a mirror finish backing to it on the lower section. I’m not sure why they would do that?? I guess the light isn’t going to pass through a mirror. Very strange. I’m sure they’ve never been taken apart as they’ve been in the barn forever, but perhaps I should take one apart and carefully clean it which will show better in photos how weird it is |
