|
|
I replaced my fuel tank evap hoses about 8 years ago using the kit Van Cafe had available at that time. It used braided hoses to connect the fuel tank to the evap tanks. I assume the thought was that they didn't need to be ethanol proof since they aren't continuously filled with liquid gas.
Anyway, on Friday I filled the gas tank and noticed a smell. Upon investigation I found that the hoses were completely covered in gas. My HOPE is that the hoses degraded and just need to be replaced. My FEAR is that the leak is actually from the grommet/fitting and that gas was wicked up along the braided covering on the hoses - but it just seems like way too much gas all over the hose for that to be true.
Has anyone else run into this?

Those hoses turn into linear sieves over time. Get some Gate SAE 30r14 carburetor hose and replace them all.
You may still need to replace the grommets before too long. |

8 years is a long time. I'm surprised you have that much fuel above the tank. Are you neck filling it? _________________ ☮️ |

Funny how that "long time" flew by in the blink of an eye.
I only fill it up until the pump shuts off automatically. This is the first time I've experienced this so maybe the pump ran a little longer than it normally would?
Either way, new hoses are on the way and I'll start paying closer attention to smells after fill ups. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |
