Thinking about installing an auxiliary fuse panel behind the glovebox. I plan to pull power directly from the primary battery under the passenger seat for a short run under to this location. Would 8 gauge wire be satisfactory for this application? _________________ “Most everyone’s mad here. It all depends on what you hooking up to the fuse panel. What is the maximum total power draw in amps?
Plug that number into the Blue Sea wire selection chart: http://assets.bluesea.com/files/resources/newsletter/images/DC_wire_selection_chartlg.jpg _________________ '85 Westfalia 1.9L

Here's a good table for this.
For a run that short 8GA wire is good for 40A, fused appropriately.

Here you can see that #8 Marine wire is rated for up to 80 amps continuous.

Without knowing the size and type of loads you plan to run at the same time we can't say if you should go a size heavier.

#8 should be plenty for anything you are running up there, except for a loud audio amplifier. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |
