Sure it covered most of Europe in the 1940s. _________________ Glenn

quirky fact - the ‘Made in Germany’ label is over 130 years old and that, despite widespread belief, the ‘Made in Germany’ label is not a German invention. Instead, it was an idea of Great Britain. To be precise, Great Britain introduced the label in 1887 when it passed a law to force foreign companies to make the origins of their products clear. Apparently, several German companies had copied British products and Great Britain wanted to keep German products from gaining popularity in their country by labelling exactly where they come from. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Another interesting twist in the "Made In..." topic... my dad had a pair of opera glasses (mini-binoculars) that were made in Japan, but shortly after the war, so they had a "Made in Occupied Japan" imprint, like this sample I found on the web:
Quote: |
"Occupied Japan" (OJ) is a term used for the time period from 1945 (after World War II) through April 25, 1952; it was during this time that the Allies "occupied" Japan.
You will also see items marked "Occupied Germany" - both of which are generally an insult to these countries. I do not have any specifics on the German occupation. As Japan needed to rebuild their economy after the war, part of the agreement to allow them to export goods out of their country was that they had to mark 50% of all items with "Occupied Japan" or "Made in Occupied Japan." |
