Here is my first VW!! a 1963 notchback.. the cutest car ever to exist... I cant wait to get started on it!! |
Timeframe is roughly between Martin and Ben.
I still need to add the earlier history of this car. |
Interesting, didn't have that one on my radar. Appears to have Colorado Collector's Series license plates on it, but "notchynotchback" was in Santa Barbara. |

I took a look at what I can see from my side (IP address of photo, etc) and didn't come up with anything so no info from my end...
There is an AIM address of rachelcoxe in the profile but Google'ing that I don't really see anything else VW-related. _________________ How to Post Photos

I've been down at ISP for the last couple of days getting some more things sorted. Monday it heads to my buddy Brien's shop, Roth Vintage, for some mechanical bring up.
Dash is done! The radio was gone through and actually works...some random AM stations, but it's neat to hear it spit out some sound. The NOS Bosch antenna is a neat touch as well. I'm big on safety upgrades so we added some emergency flashers.
I also added the OG VDO tach that I got from my late friend Dave Orozco. I know Dave would have added it, so this is my homage to him. A reminder of him every time I get in.

Panels are in! I'm hoping to find some better upper door trim, early padded style...but these cleaned up okay for the time being.
Not pictured are the lower panel screws and caps. Those are in now as well. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

When it comes to Type 3s, sometimes you just have to make things work. I didn't snap a finished picture, but I'll grab one Monday.
Getting closer...

Agreed. That's really starting to come around now, and shows your dedication to it. It's really beautiful. Nice work. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Well, 75% of the seats are done. I need to figure out the rear seat bottom issue. The Abarth looks killer.

It's cool seeing how far it's come since Mink originally bought it until now. Great work, and it looks beautiful. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I forgot to post up the mechanical update from a few weeks ago. After the panels were finished up the Notchback went over to my buddy Brien's shop, Roth Vintage in Orange, to wake it up. I spent a couple days there helping to disassemble the front end stuff. I got it cleaned up and we got it in before I had to head back north. Brien finished everything else up and got it back to ISP.
The Notchback now has all new hard brake lines, brake hoses, rubber beam bushings, ball joints, tie-rods, single circuit master, disc brakes, rear brakes, rebuilt pedal assembly, shifter bushing, an Abarth exhaust, and a tune-up. The calipers required some modifications with the slotted early wheels.
She's ready to drive and I can't wait to do just that. Brien is the man.
