I have a '81 Caddy with what I guess is a 1.7? It's a project that had a cracked exhaust manifold. I added a header and ported out the intake for the Audi throttle body. I read a little bit about a G grind cam and did a search on here with little luck. Is this a factory cam or an aftermarket unit? Is it worth the upgrade? Thanks

G grind is a Euro GTI solid lifter cam, a bit more lift than stock US cam. These days most are aftermarket copies of the original factory G grind. See:

The 1.7L engines have small valves so I really do not think a cam will help much. Maybe you can feel the extra power but I certainly would not. If you have opened up the exhaust and the intake, you might as well spend the money on a cam. Remember, you will have to adjust the valves and that means more tools and shims to get the valves adjusted correct. Something to think about.
