Not much to save there by the looks of things. Did you replace the entire rear corner with new metal as one piece. Do you have a picture of after the repair? |

to those who were worried about the frame chassis . it has a solid chassis it was towed out of 50km.s of trail already it was pretty solid before It had a few pieces of double frame welded in to support the storage items. It is way beyond the strength it should be for the storage items we are using it for. _________________

I know you're keen to get this thing back together, I get it, but you're obviously also keen to have it somewhat proper, else you wouldn't be buying repair panels where you could just lay in a bit of sheet steel.
Your welds are noticeably better now than they were at the start of the build, so while you're waiting for funds for the next load of panels why not see if you can just get a load of scrap panels for free and practise cutting them in half and welding them back together again? Maybe get a selection of stuff ie some that body panel thickness, some that's chassis thickness?
I'm about to embark on learning to weld too, so I'm in the same boat, and in my mind, I've laid down a bead with my mate's supervision, I've watched a fair few youtube vids and read a few resto threads - how hard can it be? Well, I'm going to find out how hard it can be on a few bits of metal that a) I don't mind trashing and b) aren't attached to anything so I can look at both sides to see how well my welds have penetrated and give it a good old whack with a BFH so see if it's actually got any strength.
Short version - with the amount of welding that needs doing on this bus you're going to get good at it, but by then you might wish you'd got a little better before attempting some of the earlier repairs. |

i knew this thread would eventually have a punchline... his bay window threads usually do
now all he needs is someone to give him 25k for it....or someone dumb enough to drop 125 for him to finish the 'resto'

Agree, but he’s no different than most of the other bus flippers that inhabit this site. With the possible exception that he actually unloaded it off his trailer and touched a welder to it before trying to sell it for 10x what he paid. The question is, what’s worse.....to do nothing to improve a rusty, structurally compromised bus before flipping it, or weld it up just barely enough to give some future buyer a false sense that it’s safe to drive around ? |
