I have just bought two of these Febi branded boots over here in Ireland.
Febi part number 38365 and it also says 1K0498201 on the box.
They were 17 euros each. I'll let you know how they fit...

Looks like it.
I liked the fit of the VW boots best but they are both wearing well.
Spend enough with FCP and shipping is free!
Add some oil filters or something!

Yup, the price went up. I bet I got a holiday cyber deal.

I got my axles rebuilt and installed. This is on a ‘71 Westy not a Vanagon, but the fit good and I’ll post updates once I get a few thousand mikes on them.

Have been reading this boot thing with great interest. If you go to the FCP site they no longer carry the 1ko498201 boot. It is now numbered VAG-2Q0498202. The boot is not listed for use on the camp mobile or transporter. As confusion begins to run rampant on this subject I was wondering if the "lifetime warranty" will still apply. I need 4 for a 72 camper I just bought and have enjoyed reading this post and appreciate all the info from the members. Thanks.

Have any of us ever gone out to our jacked up Van and felt how close the stock VW boot is to the axle shaft on a full drop?

No, I never did ....... and I'd wager money precious few others ever have.
The simple reason is "why would I?"

I also think that on those occasions it might make contact?
There a heaping helping if gooey grease in there lubricating that contact point.

I might still have an old VW boot. If I do I think I'll measure how deep the inner folds of the bellows are.
Then crawl under and measure my Tiguan bellows in like manner.

The VW Vanagon boots are a much thicker "rubber" than the new Tiguan boots.
I attribute that to design/material advancements in the past 30 years.

The boot and joint rotate at the same speed and they're super greased, so how much of an issue could it be?

In light of your findings I put a note on page #1 that units with raised suspensions might do well to research possible fit issues.

I had super high hopes for these. I put the Tiguan GKN's on the front inners of my syncro and the left rear axle last time it was out. The front left inner is torn and also the LH rear inner at around 15k miles. I still think they are a good option for vans not lifted too high. I'm at 20" hub to fender.

Hi Dave!

you can clearly see it is from rubbing the axle, it's all polished as a result.

20" is 510mm roughly, not crazy high but the upper safe limit of stock axles.

Yeah, I was going to say tgat we have our first endurance test failure!

Like Sodo said..... probably not good for lifted units.

On the top of the first post on page 1 I made a note of this a week or so ago.

On the other hand, mine are pushing 14,000 miles and still perform as new on my stock height 2wd GL.
