I cleaned the car inside out and started to explore a little.
Some idiot PO drilled a hole through the outside right into my voltage regulator. Of course moisture got in. and the inside looks corroded It really helps to get things out of the way before you drill and weld on something.
I was hoping that the heater vent was still ok under that piece of metal they had welded over it. No, it not OK! No big one I'll just make a new one. I knew from the start, that left side is much worse and luckily I got a replacement for the whole rocker. But the right side I will have to repair.
So out of chronological order I made a replacement for the heater vent last night and finished it today. No special tools involved in making this.
When I picked up the care I noticed, that the steering wheel was loose and I noticed, that the threads were gone. Well I am not the one to give in easily and decided, I can fix that. First I tried a prototype welding material to a shaft while it was turning at slowest my lathe would go but that didn't work well.
Therefore I decided I will weld it one row at a time:
Until I was all the way around and then I turned it to the correct OD for the threads.
The I used a die to cut the threads. I could have used the lathe but I don't have the practice cutting threads on a lathe.
Worked out quite well:
I also cleaned up and rewired the steering column:
One of our cats had to inspect the car:

That's some very nice fabrication work for the vent outlet. Glad to see that kind of level for a repair. Those parts are hard to find not rusted as it is, let alone enough to use as a copy for building.
I think a few of us have an "inspector 12" (the cat) around keeping an eye on us. Good looking cat too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I was really lucky to get a good clip for the left side, which I could use as example for the right side. |

I wish I was half talented as you. I just know how to replace parts, not fabricate! 👍 _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

Both of those parts came out looking good. The rear half of the right inner rocker looks good (took me a few minutes to figure out what it was). The foot plate piece really turned out good. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Time to update this thread.
I found some rust holes which were filled with Bondo.
This needed replacing, therefore I made some patches:
And welded them into the car:
Unfortunately it didn't turnout as good as I wanted it to be:
I decided it would be better to fix this instead of filling it with lead or Bondo:
I cut a slit, bent it open and welded thins strips of metal into the gap.
Then I moved forward to the next holes:
