Trying to reconstruct the bushing arrangement between the front beam brackets and the body. Somebody got a diagram handy?

Interesting. That doesn't show a washer on top of 54.

This is from clatter's gallery

That's because it doesn't belong there.

The diagram is from the parts book.

You can download a copy from this site:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/type3_parts_book/

Here's the quick and dirty:
The flat bushing (#54) goes between the underside of the body and the top of the front beam bracket (#19), the bushing with the 'ring' (#55) goes on the underside of that bracket - the groove fits into the underside of the bracket, the metal 'tube' (#53) fits in the middle of the two bushings - likely to keep the bolt from eating through the side of the bushings and the giant washer goes on the underside of the lower bushing, then a washer, then the bolt.

This photo of the front of my car doesn't show the lower metal washer because of the angle of the photo.
