what is the status of the gowesty new engine
Management system? Would you recommend the system? How easy to switch? Does it improve gas milage or reliability? Any problems? _________________ i see said the blind man to his deaf dog

I admire GW's investment in R&D to keep these beasts on the road. That being said, their engine management is expensive and commits you to a VW flat-four. Though a workhorse in it's day, the engine today has dismal statistics for mileage, power and oil consumption.
I replaced my engine with a FAS Gen V.
Just my opinion, having gone through three VW flat fours; none of which lasted more than four years. Granted, I put a LOT of miles on each . . . _________________ '90 White Westy ("The Longship")

After looking at your suggestion i think that
Is a very expensive solution that i can not afford.
3000 vs 12000+. Why did you not install a subaru engine or a larger gw engine? There is even a shop that will convert to a tesla motor. _________________ i see said the blind man to his deaf dog

My last engine was a GW 2.45. Lasted four years. I wanted to have it German from front to back. Not being an engine mechanic, I saw a lot of complications with a Japanese engine in a German vehicle. The Subaru is a great engine, but the interface has to be done right and still there are follow-up issues. Worst case, I can drive mine to a VW dealer. The FAS Gen V is the same engine that VW has been putting in the Beetle and Jetta since 2002. Parts availability is a plus also.
I tried three times to keep a flat-four in my van, but it seems the aftermarket support is like a crack dealer: keep that engine, you're gonna need our parts.
I was looking at the LAST engine I'd have to install. The long game was more expensive. _________________ '90 White Westy ("The Longship")

I don’t have it bookmarked, but there was a pretty comprehensive thread discussing a members install and experience. Maybe someone can link it for you. _________________ ☮️ |
