If you go off-road avoid the carpet, because the dust comes in and never get cleaned! You don’t want to breathe it!! |

I have a boat yard and my wife has a marine canvas and upholstery business . We have used miles of hull liner on boats and I have used it in a couple of vanagons . I used it in my van to line the glove box and storage compartments and I lined a friends pop top with it and that worked very well. However it may be a bit to thick and fuzzy to the pillars etc. with. When I get to the shop today I,ll put a sample under the window rubber on my van and post a photo. my van just has painted pillars etc. so it will be an easy trial .

I used Flex Form, a marine style carpet, to finish out the interior of the NAHT hightop and replace the old vinyl below. Its tough but can be stretched to fit angles. With the persuasion of a flat edge bar and help of 3m aerosol glue it went on to the pillars and ceiling no problem. Also easy to clean/vacuum.

Yes, it will fit under the rubber, I could make this work. Hull liner could very well work in this application depending on your skill level and what your vision is. But.. hull liner would not be my first choice in this application for a number of reasons.
It is rather thick for this purpose and makes it look like a american conversion van from the early 20's .
The edges not covered (like the door jams) will be hard to trim neatly. all though that is not an impossible job. just tricky.
Cleaning and durability might well be a issue if your van sees hard use.
Honesty I have not done this project on a van, but might recommend a micro suede or micro what ever fiber that is a bit thinner and cleanable but still has enough stretch to make the corner moldings smooth.
Good Luck, Tim
