Currently removing old purple tint from the windows. PITA. A heat gun and razor help a lot. Simple Green removes the adhesive. Going to get them ceramic coated before installing. 35% in back. 70% on front side windows.

Shuffled the two projects in the garage. The syncro now gets the lift bay on the left for me to do the mechanical refresh.

And it took less than one week for a bird to get into the garage and christen the syncro paint. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Wow, Dave! Nice paint job! The van looks very straight and your prep obviously was excellent.

Can you tell us what brand of paint you used? Was the base coat water based, or low VOC?

(I assume it was LH5U Dove blue.)

Starting to take off the syncro specific parts from the engine then time to separate the transmission.

The engine turns over with a breaker bar on the crank bolt and I can feel compression. I’ll sell it as is to someone local as a core or maybe someone will be lucky and get it running without a rebuild.

Finished removing the syncro engine parts and separated the engine and transmission. The trans was siliconed to the engine and the lower two studs were corroded in the bores so it was a struggle for a while. But I prevailed and didn’t even break anything. Laughing

Wasn't the silicone proper factory procedure to water proof the bell housing?

They did use some form of sealer but this looked like it was done by an amateur. Gobs here and there.

Here's a 43,000 mile Syncro.
Pretty likely these are factory globs.

Hope it doesn't have the OG gear oil too.... Rolling Eyes

Thanks. OK likely original. And likely original gear oil. Magnetic had a small afro no pieces of metal so fingers crossed that Matt Steedle will not find anything horrible. Waiting on a Peloquin currently.

Dave

Don't mistakenly put the 911 engine in your Syncro, I'd have a hard time figuring which one to complete if they were both in my Garage.

When you're ready to do the front struts, let me know if you want to borrow my Spring Compressor. Without it that job is a bitch. Pay shipping both ways and you can use it.

Stacey, I’ll try to keep them apart although putting the 911 engine in the syncro would make Casey happy. Laughing

And thanks for the spring compressor offer. If mine won’t do the job I’ll be contacting you. Cool

Btw: On that note, I installed the Iota and it pleases me.
