Well.... making snarky comments at your expense is one of my highest priorities... but I take as well as dish out.
Glad the Iota is working well. At least something I did pleases you..... _________________ Dave O

[quote="dobryan"]Shuffled the two projects in the garage. The syncro now gets the lift bay on the left for me to do the mechanical refresh.
Holy crap! Remind me never to post a photo of my garage for comparative purposes. My van will not even clear the ceiling threshold and the area is stuffed with hanging bikes/skis/climbing crap. I'll use that as an excuse for farming out most of the upgrades |

Installed the front bumper today. Twin Peaks from Van Cafe. I love this bumper even though it does impact the approach angle some. The front bar makes a great place to anchor a hammock too.
I sprayed cosmoline on the entire body bumper area since I cannot access it later. (I will be coating everything I can in cosmoline as I go through the syncro.)
All done.
I will do the rear bumper next. The logic is that these are the biggest parts boxes in the garage and they get in the way. _________________ Dave O

Looks like we are on the same path. 1973 targa with 3.6 and G-50. It will be worked on when my van is done. Hopefully soon. _________________ I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the internet

I know someone who still has the Dove blue '86 that he bought new.
I like OEM colors.
I like other colors too, but OEM is cool. _________________

Is there truth to the rumor I started that the van will be named Casey and will have vanity plates with "Casey" on them?

Today I dropped the radiator with the a/c condenser.
Some time in the past 15 years somebody hacked up the fan shroud and took the fan and motor. Grrr.
I bought a motor and fan off the classifieds and I have a line on the shroud. This one could be welded if necessary but I'd prefer not to rely on a weld on that thin metal since it takes a lot of vibration.
The body behind the radiator is in excellent condition.
Looking at the front end more carefully. The power steering rack has leaks at both ends. The boots have fluid in them that is not supposed to be there. I'll rebuild it.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620480&highlight=steering+rack+rebuild
And the power steering lines are heavily corroded. I'll replace them with flexible hoses from VanAgain.
Having fun! _________________ Dave O
