The tire is trash anyway, might as well get some miles out of it.

Is this one of the new tires you just put on? Trashed due to alignment? How are the tires working out otherwise? _________________ "You're either on the bus, or you're off the bus." ~kk

I wonder if I should be worried?
I Just spent the morning running errands.
Maybe it is the weather?
Post rainy day Sunshine, low humidity and moderate temperatures ......
But, this unit is running better than it ever has!
It idles without a stumble,
Accelerates strongly
Accelerates uphill!
Rides smoothly
Quiet comfort.
I hope this isn't the proverbial calm before the storm!

Should a Vanagon owner ever be worried? Nah; less frowns and more smiles.

95% of the rest of should be so lucky. Luckily, I have all of the above except for a 1100 RPM idle. In your case it's not luck as you have busted you butt to make it so. |

I like the tires.
Yes, worn due to alignment.
The other 3 are wearing quite well.
Good in rain, wet grass, mud.
Untested on snow or ice.

Thanks. I have four in the pipe heading my way and was hoping you still were a thumbs up on them. _________________ "You're either on the bus, or you're off the bus." ~kk

Still driving on an antique plate I see. Doesn't that have restrictions? Here you are only allowed certain days and distances. |

So my brakes were squeaking.
Not a gentle squeak but SQUEAL!!!
New York City Subway level squeal!
The level of brake dust on the front wheels is nothing short of astounding.
After work today I pulled the RF wheel figuring I'll clean it up and apply an anti-squeak product.
I had put new Disc's and pads on but 4,000 miles ago.
I was shocked to find that these pads were gone! D O N E worn out!
At least I caught them before they attacked the discs!
Who would think in 4,000 miles that I would need new pads?
My last trip West and back home was 8,000 miles!
I would never think of checking young brakes pads within that mileage!
I was pleased that at least they wore evenly, I had battled uneven wear when I put on the discs.
I had filed, sanded and lubricated the mounting at that time.
In all fairness the ones I had put in were Auto Zone $17 brake pads.
I purchased two sets because my discs were in such bad shape when I got the Van I didn't want to waste good pads on rusty chewed up discs.
I had purchased some NAPA PF-7232-M pads for my travel kit a while back.
Now I have no travel kit pads!
All new pads on!
Let's see how these wear.......
Note:
I rarely if ever buy the top of the line long wearing low dust brake pads.
I've seen slightly worn high end brake pads running on well worn discs!
Brake pad replacement is cheaper and easier than brake disc replacement!

i'm not genius, but 4000 miles seems really low for brake pads.
it has to be that monster hill you go down. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

IF thats a floating caliper that pad manufacturer needs to be put out of business.
If its a dual piston, one of them is sticking. _________________ .ssS! |
