Off to NY State.
The first part of my journey to Hackettstown NJ was my standard back road route.
From Hackettstown I took 46 until I merged onto I-80.
I take very little interstate now and honestly I just don't get it.
There is no joy in the journey.
The only plus is a time savings. And even that isn’t always the case.
But
I was on a schedule and had no choice if I wanted to arrive on time but to hop on I-80 to I-287.
It wasn't at all busy on the highway being well after rush hour but it is boring and honestly quite stressful.
I didn't putz along, I was doing above 70 for most of the journey but I just felt in the way.
Concrete channel....... I-80
A bit better on I-287 but I've sat in bumper to bumper traffic in this very spot in years gone by.
I met up with Abscate and transferred the items he had picked up for me.
A pile of Tintop A/C ducts and distribution along with an Evaporator.
I figure somebody will be wanting this.......
My Van was excited to enter the empire State
but abscate brought a Volvo instead of his Eurovan. My Van was hoping to meet a younger sibling....... Big disappointment!
Anyway on the way home we shied away from the highways and beat a path West across rural northern NJ.
Eventually we found the Delaware River ......
Too bad this river doesn't have serious flooding problems!
I can't imagine three flights of stairs to get to my house!
Also encountered a “picturesque” Power Plant. I think it is a decommissioned coal plant on the Pennsylvania side.
All told we traveled about 300 miles.
A great day for a drive.

Nice seeing you again Dave. I swapped the 21 mpg T4 for the 33 mpg Volvo wagon, sorry. I did manage to fix both a P3 wagon and a Prius on that trip which covered my nut and more, too. _________________ .ssS! |

Yes, short but a good visit.
Maybe that word "short" is why the visit was good? 😂🤔
Thanks for the pickup and transport.
Beating a path West in NJ isn't as easy as one may think.
Roads in this State weren't really planned and as a result very few really run East / West or North / South.
The roads began as paths that linked homes and settlements, as a result roads labeled as North or South usually run On angles..... NW or NE ...... the states highways are spiderwebs radiating out from central points.
I tend to "orienteer" by automobile when I have the time. No maps.... no compass just drive towards perceived West.
I admittedly got turned around a few times but saw a lot of beautiful land (yes, NJ is WAY more than city and highway). At one point I was on a one lane road hugging a cliff, the road bed cut is shared with rail road tracks. Beyond the tracks is a steep plunge to the river.
They have paved this road, I remember it years ago as gravel and dirt. It was better back then.

I know…… I know…….
"Pride cometh before the fall."
But when I had my 86 camper I worried every time I drove it…… "what's going to break?"
It was largely unfounded worry because little ever actually broke.
But, I didn't drive it a lot.
That Van and I didn't have a daily relationship.
We didn't come to trust each other fully.
As I emptied my 90 yesterday to repack and organized the amazing jumble of tools, supplies and garbage, I swept off saw dust, dirt and pine needles from my engine cover.
I thought, "I cannot remember the last time I had this cover off!"
Now I've checked the oil and the coolant tank behind the plate but I haven't popped that lid in weeks! …… a month or more?
It was a morning ritual for awhile but once I conquered my coolant leaks and my ATF leaks, the need for daily checks simply vanished.
Every morning, I just get in, turn the key and GO!
I trust the flashing coolant light now.
It isn't far removed from my Toyota on being dependable mindless transportation.
I've come to feel that these units can't sit, they need to be driven.
Many of us worry about them because we don't drive them so they are unfamiliar and strange to us.
Anyway…….. now that I've set the breakdown clock into motion …………

Back in the day when I bought brand new T3s, they had zero miles and behaved exactly as yours does. I got in them, turned the key and went. I kept them for 4 ish years and piled up 80-90k miles. I drove to Florida from New England several times. I drove to Wisconsin. Averaging 20/25k a year. Only problem I ever had was the first water cooled with head gaskets which were repaired under warrantee.
You now have a "new" engine. You have made improvements to the original engineering. Yes, a bunch of the parts are 30 years old, but none of the essential ones such as coolant and fuels systems. Why shouldn't your car be dependable and go every time you turn the key? You pay attention and don't let part get iffy, like I did with my starter and battery recently. Of course your car loves you, because you love it. In such a marriage, neither treats the other poorly.
And you make the most important investment together. Memories.
Merry Christmas, Duncan |

You understand all there is to know about the heater box. Is there any way to make a temp hole and force air with a separate fan into the hole and get it to work?

Then fix it in the spring when the temps are better for dropping the dash.
