Any idea what products or shop this 86 vanagon used to get the A/C in the front? Is the Subaru engine swap needed for this upgrade? Any details appreciated.

| The controls look similar to a Vintage Air part. Others will chime in, but I believe Small Car is doing Subaru conversions and an adapted Vintage Air unit for Vanagons. Something for you to start with. |

A result. I have a vintage air unit in our 82. I’m using the radio slot for center vents and the stock outer air vents. Stereo is remote mounted with a small display head above the mirror. I have pictures loaded here under my name.
We just got back from a cross country trip. The dash ac is a blessing, but it does not cool the entire van like a meat locker. Front passengers are comfortable and I have a 12 volt fan on the front table leg to cool it some for the dog.
The AC competes with the heat radiating up through the engine area as well as the heat from the fridge. Driving across GA a couple weeks ago in 98F sun, it was barely keeping us comfortable up front. A cloud of rain and it freezes you out.
I mention this so you understand what you are bidding on. I’ve got a couple ideas. My windshield and door windows are clear tinted already. Good luck if you decide to bid. |
