I think the bulged rear apron was introduced on German built bugs for the 75 model year, something to do with extra space for a cat on FI cars, but was used on all models till production ended. |

Had to drill one door bolt
Body off pan time, nice and easy bolt removal. A few pan bolts are being sticky, water got in way back in the day

Original red hiding. Stripped the white off and removed the primer with lacquer thinner. Bingo.
Awesome, no accident, dent free almost all rust free car.....Anyone want it????
I just fix it, stare at it, and and it will just sit, like my others.

That apron was probably purchased at the vw dealer in the 80s to repair a damaged one. I think the older ones were NLA. |

It was used on German production cars from MY 1975 on.
The Mexican beetles from 1978 on used the old flat apron again until they got a catalytic converter (1992?). _________________ AC:

all US market bugs came from Germany. you have a standard with IRS so it is a US market bug, on which someone replaced the rear apron with a later model's part. Nothing to worry about. _________________ cars:

Diamond blue1969 got it right, there was a time in the 70s and 80s when that rear apron was the only one available from the dealer. |

Who likes a bubbled rear end anyway
So this rear is an original replacement on this car?
Noticed the decklid was replaced, must of been tapped in the back way back in the day. Also it was resprayed red over the original red on the outside when delayering. |

This paint stripper sucks.
What happened to the stuff that burned your body parts when it got on you and dried up hard, instead of this slime.???
Guess I have the wrong formula
