Not much going on with the project. Other life things going on for sure.

After seeing what Pedro did with his fog lens - I had to have mine chromed as well. Just back from the shop with my euro headlight lens ans well.

See the top pick? Baller on a budget, shade tree mechanic paint style. Sorry, I had to have the tripple chrome plate. Cool Laughing

Baller on a Budget:
Been meaning to tell you that a 1989-98 Miata soft top frame is a decent candidate as well. In fact, the only reason I went from that to MBZ was because with the MBZ W107 frame I could make the frame fit the harsher corner on the rear of the roll up window.

Yeah, never was digging the boxy square look that MBZ top offered.

As with all things, prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I started in on getting some of the red off the upper door panels. I had planned on recovering them, but wanted to see what the og stuff looked like.

Then I went on FB and found a nice set. Dropped some coin - plan B now on.

Originals.

I went parts hunting in my own stash today and found some headlight lens gaskets and some tail light to body gaskets.

Lights look great. I always love how small things no one else is likely to notice make such a huge difference in the end product.

Expensive front lights and T-34 only fog lights that use bulbs inside, versus sealed beam set ups for both.

In the early to mid 80's we had a Beta VHS tape player that had some fine tuning or tracking adjustment. I learned it could make those scrambled channels come in pretty clear, for about 20min. I was 12yrs old. By 1998 I had a PC and internet, nothing scrambled anymore.

I didn't need glasses till I was 48, so that tale was just a buncha Lies.

So these bad boys are completely redone and restored. New gaskets, lens, 12v bulbs, repainted and re-chromed. Ready to install.

May I ask where you got your chrome work done?
I just had some headlight rings chromed and you can see the scratches from a belt sander.

So a good and a bad thing happened.

I bought a convertible top that I thought was Ghia one. Turned out to be a Bug top. Shocked This after waiting a month for Greyhound to get it to me to find out it was wrong. I was pissed at first, but could only blame myself in the end as I know the difference by seeing pics. I made the purchase at night, late, there may or may not of been libations involved ..... Confused Rolling Eyes Laughing

So I sourced one in LA - drove up to get it. Sold the other top already as well at a $25 loss. Not bad. And I still have the MZB top to sell.

So I did a real rough, and I mean rough - nothing to gain set up other than to see it on it shots with the T14 top.

The mounting points on the B pillars are the anchor points. The holes Tram already cut weren't big enough to slide it down into - so it sits high.

Fun to imagine though.

So how close are the widths? Front and rear?
How does the fit compare to the MB frame?

Not sure really yet Bob. I just threw it on there. I did like the width at the top of the windshield, and the B pillar width wasn't bad setting there.

Ill let Pedro wrap his head around it as he is far better with these details for sure. If I were to move forward by myself - Id pay to have someone just do it.

I have the fortune of working along side of Pedro on this. Our cars will be vastly different, but the tops should be the same.

Onto some of the goodie finding. The door tops I have are decent when you consider most are just trashed. Having a crack or two is common for these. Also most have the metal backing rotted out. Most Ive seen have this problem bad.

So when I saw some nice ones in the NL I jumped on them. They one has some rot and a bit missing. Easy fix when shown next to the ones I had. Since the car will be a convertible - the rears wont be needed.

I also played around with the fresh air grills I had and the heater outlets.
