Dang..you Texas boys are on the ball. Love it, love it!!! To us tech challenged guys it's like magic.

P.S. Dave, I like your idea about relocating and water proofing the existing unit. _________________ The Road Goes Ever On & On……...

Please keep us posted. I'd buy one. I'm on my second rebuilt one. Running strong but it seems like its only a matter of time till it goes out again... _________________ 87 Vanagon Wolfsburg Edition tin top |

Regarding weather proofing. the board is going to be coated with a water resistant coating and the modern electronics are much better than the ones from the 19080s.
It will also be sitting inside a box. So the chance of water damage is slim. |

wow. have you determined a price point yet? that really shouldn't be released until all the i's are dotted! good job with the development thus far. _________________ -dan

We sent out request for prototype quotes. Hoping to have some back next week then we can build an actual prototype and start testing and adjusting it. |

Oh nice, you're hoping to beat the rebuilt price. That would make it a no brainer. _________________ '87 Syncro

I’m working with a friend on an alternative to the Idle Stabilizer Control Unit.
Basically a modern alternative that will do the same but will be made with modern electronics, reliable and will not break. Plus you’ll be able to do some tuning and read info from it to help diagnose the so common idle issues.
What I wanted to know is if there will be interest in such unit from van owners.

Any news on this improvement for the Vanagon? |

Update Feb 3. These things take time
It will help if you guys who want these will let the developer know as that helps spend the money and time to make it happen _________________ .ssS! |

Just an update. We ordered 10 units for testing. We are still waiting on them. As you know, everything is super slow right now.
Once we have them in hand and start testing, I will post more updates. |

Fantastic. I'm driving around with no ICU and won't replace it until you're done. |

Just a guess... I bet the solder-mask will be purple.
What conformal coat are you going to use? ...
There is a great shop in Austin to get all your FCC testing done, if and when you ever decide to go wireless. Since it is consumer based, albeit automotive, it's not as inten$ive as avionics. If recall correctly they're called "Professional Testing EMI" It used to be IBM's test facility, heck it's attached to IBM's building. I was "voluntold" that i got the pleasure of going there in late July when we did our FCC testing. Great people... just to FN hot for a PNW boy...
... now back to your regularly scheduled program _________________ 65 deluxe

We don’t have plans to go wireless. The input / output and control of the unit is rather basic. There is not really a need for wireless connection.
I’m not sure about the type of conformal coating. We will have the test units next week so we will be able to test and make more decisions. |
