Many turbo guys just lock the dist at 24-26deg.
It's simple enough and runs fine on/off boost. No issues starting, mid range running is fine too.
Or.....You can map it with an aftermarket setup. A normal aspirated curve that advances at 1500-3500rpm range, then add boost retard with a MAP sensor setup.
While that all sounds great, there is an inherent danger with boost. If something happens you see 28-32deg on boost, things break.
This is why may guys just lock at 24-26 and then you don't worry about a wire falling off or an "oops".
regardless.. With the MSD springs, you want the color spring that starts advancing at 1200-1500rpm.
any lower than that and it will be advancing at idle, thus making a stable idle impossible. |
