|
|
Hello everyone. I found this NOS piston set. As you can see on the box label it has a diameter of 75mm. What is making me more confused is writing type4?!? Pistons sizes: diameter=75mm, height=80mm and the pin diam.=20mm. The brand I think is Hepolite. Does it look like pistons for 25hp split or will it be for another car? Thank you in advance for your help

I believe type 4 VW means they fit volkswagen. I have a couple of different sets that say the same thing. My sets are 77mm. I would measure the piston pins. Early Beetle should be 20mm. _________________ '63 OG 117 Herbie Replica

i think the smallest type 4 engines (1.7 Liter) had 90mm pistons. _________________ regards

Hi. The diameter, length and pin diameter are the same of the 25hp pistons, that’s a fact. There any more other measure that I can check? |

i punched the pat 616820 number into the almighty google:
https://www.google.com/search?q=pat+616820&oq=...p;ie=UTF-8
in short: these appear to be british motorcycle pistons? _________________ regards

Are the gudgeon/piston/small end pins held in place by circlips? Are there grooves for circlips? The alternative is the pin being hold in place by a pinch bolt on the small end of the conrod.
I've adapted some Opel 75mm pistons for my 25hp engine, which didn't have circlips, but work by using teflon buttons. This sort of thing: https://www.v-dubstore.com/teflon-piston-pin-retainer-buttons-p/e4070.htm
If it says VW, and they are 75mm, then as far as I know, they will only fit Beetle 25hp or early Polo engines. Whichever the case, you should be able to use them. |

They come with this circlips and this ring expanders.
I know the Polo pistons have also 75mm diameter but the length is shorter than 80mm.

Upper piston rings looks like 3 mm wide? 25hp has them, later thinner. |
Yes, the 2 upper piston rings have 3mm wide, what does it mean? |

it seems to me that the pistons in the pictures are what i linked above? motorcycle pistons. They may very well have the appropriate measurements for a VW, but the pictures look identical to the ones i found online. _________________ regards

They are for volkswagens as you can see on the box label, only haven’t sure about the model for now |

Hi again,

John works less than half a mile (800m) from where I live, always one of the best people to ask for vintage pistons, engine bearings, and gaskets to fit any make that exists in the UK.

NO - a 25ps motor has 75mm pistons and all Splits should have 25ps motors. _________________ Rod,
