talking with a friend yesterday. he's illegal, so he can't do anything about this pearl of information he passed on: he said VW engines are plentiful, and sell for chump change, in Mexico. they are thin on the ground here in NM.
a year ago I would just go down and see. now, that is inadavisble. does anyone know if this is true? _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

Because the VW Upright engine was still built in Mexico until about 2003, it wouldn't surprise me. I believe that is where the hydraulic lifter engines came from... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

Beetle engines sell for chump change because they are usually junk. Few people maintain their cars, so major engine troubles are common.
Beetles are not very common in the very north of Mexico. That's because for the same amount of $ it takes to buy a Beetle, they can get a much better used car from the US. _________________

2003 was a long time ago.
Nissan Sentra took over the Mexican Market for cheap car.
Even in Mexico, only VW lovers are still driving Air Cooled VWs. _________________ Good Luck
