don't let the criticism get to you, its not worth getting worked up over. you might think about changing the year in your sig line and you will be a little more correct. I guess you are correct to still have that nickname. you should be able to find a seat if you are patient, but don't look to me for any help as long as you are posting stupid insults without thinking first. _________________ .

for the love of all that is decent and good, please change the color of your ghia
let Anna choose the colors of her cars and you choose the colors of your own. that is unless you were forced to let her believe that the ghia vert is actually her car, in that case come up with some other excuse for painting it a different color. like "the paint store ran out of yellow, so I had to paint it black."
I too am plagued with a yellow ghia, but the next time I drive it, it will be a stock color. _________________ .

I bought the ghia for Anna... soon after she bought me the double cab. But she doesnt like to drive the vert... says it's too low (it's stock height).
But seriously, the thing that most people make comment to me about the ghia is 'I saw your Yellow ghia...'

Crofty, did you ever find him up there in the mountains? I was flying around Mt Whitney and Bishop and China Lake a lot around then.

This is a blast from the past, back in the old days of the long lost rants and raves forum, which lives on only in a muted limited sense in the whines topic.
Its been more than 15 years since I hacked the bulkhead out of my bus, and I have not regretted it for one day. Its still my favorite car.
A little backstory on this, which you can get bits of reading the topic. swivelseat dave had a bus which he rebuilt, which he claimed was an original double swivelseat bus. I checked out his purple custom swivelseat bus and looked for the M-code plate to see if there was anything different, but it was just like any other standard single swivel bus. He posted pictures of the passenger seat rails to show it was original, but they had been recently painted in the photo. In reality, he bought two swivelseat buses, and hacked the second seat in. He also might have hacked the VIN number from the parts bus in as well. That parts bus ended up in Bakersfield with cut out swivelseat metal and cut out VIN number some years later.. He always maintained that the bus was an original double swivelseat, but it wasn't. I didn't insult his bus publicly until he put it up for sale, and then I called it out for what it was. (not the possible VIN issues, as that only came to light years later). Dave got really offended, and blew up. I probably should have been nicer to him. I was offended at his atrocious sense of style, and his trying to pass something off as original when it wasn't. It looks like he still comes to this site to visit once in a while, so maybe we will hear from him again defending the originality of his creation.

right, because certain things were deemed inappropriate, people would PM mods and complain about others. It was pretty rough at times and some people got involved that maybe shouldn't have.
maybe it became a liability? I know some things got carried beyond the forums into 'real life'. _________________ drive your split. |

A quick history of my favorite car. Not just my favorite car in my collection, but my favorite car ever of all the cars that have been built in the history of the world. I bought it in 1993 for the big money price of $2500, and it was the first nice car that I ever owned. I have driven it for more than 2/3 of its quarter million miles. It started life as a bench seat standard microbus with no special options. Since then I have done a few custom things to it. I collected parts for more than a decade before customizing it. I bought a couple swivelseats back when they were $200 each, and bought a sunroof section off of a mangobus for even less than that, maybe $50. I put in the sunroof clip, with the help of my friends, Greg, Sean and Louie. I cut the bulkhead and put in two swivelseats with some help from my friend, Keith. I did these things knowing that some people would think it sacrilegious, but I didn't build it for those people, I built it for me, and my friends to hang out and party in. And we have. I have driven it from coast to coast, it has been in more than half of the states on my various travels, I drove it to Grateful Dead shows in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Utah. It has been over high mountain passes, and down to the sea, and many fun places between. In the more than 15 years since I heavily modified it, I have not regretted doing that for even one second. A normal camper will seat four people for dinner or drinks, but you are damn close to each other. The whole front seat space is wasted. So by putting in a set of swivelseats I was able to open that space up and make it much more comfortable for hanging out. The sunroof also helps for that. I have a full width westy bed in the back. Four people can really comfortably hang out in the bus.

Seriously. I feel old just thinking about it. Many people have come and gone in that time, and I am glad to have the company of the ones that are still here and the memories of the ones that are not. Some have just drifted away, but they can come back.
Pics through the years and places. Not in chronological order.

A super nice bus. The mods you did to it are “customization”, but tasteful and using stock parts to create a bus that is indistinguishable from stock.
When you have driven a bus so much, and through some perhaps bad areas where you had no right to expect to get through, but your bus got you through anyway , do you ever start to feel it’s not just an inanimate machine anymore?
Btw, I don’t see how you’re doing without a pass side outside mirror. That would drive me crazy
