My friend Bill a Presbyterian minister recently passed at age 92. He had owned this 1971 Ghia since 1973. His first cousin (they were both from Tilden Ne) gave the car to him when she died in 1973. It has 80k miles on it and is very nice. I have sold it for Bill's family. The car has a decal in the back that says 14th Air Force Association. The cousin that gave Bill the car was in Burma in the late 1930's. The Japanese invaded and she was stuck there (where she was a teaching missionary). She traveled down the Burma Road escaping from the invaders/bombers. She had many adventures. She ended up working for Col Claire Chenault who formed the famous fighter squadron "The Flying Tigers" They were eventually part of the 14th Air Force. When she died some of the original Tigers came to her funeral. The Ghia is going to a good new home with folks that I know well. That guy had traded in his wife's 1969 Ghia 50+ years ago without telling her he was doing so. The closest to divorce they ever came he says. He is going to give her this one as a surprise.

It sat uncranked for 5 years. That ethanol gas ate up the lines, carb, had to send gas tank off to be cleaned, etc. I think that filter was there trying to catch some bad stuff in the lines. |
