Searched the web, found little info on my car. found a bunch on bugs and 17 digit numbers.
Can anyone point me on right direction or tell me what this v.i.n. means.

It's little fuzzy to me, but I believe the 46 indicated a Variant (station wagon). The third digit isn't in tables, but it's an even number, so that suggests RHD, unless it means something totally different.
The rest is a serial number that indicated it's about 25000 units into the 1974 model year, probably built in December 1973.

Others may be more certain. |

Sorry more info, its suppose to be a 74 stationwagen type 4 412.
I did read somewhere the first 2 digits means its a model 46 and the 3 digit means the year so, the 4 would mean 74? |

KTPhil is correct...type 46 denotes its a variant (wagon). If I am not mistaken....the third digit is the year.....type 46...1974.
I believe the rest is serial #. Ray |

And the thread author may also be asking if there is any encoding within the number, other than what's discussed above, like the typical 17-digit true VIN has.
The answer is no. It's just a serial number. |
