I am currently getting ready to remove the pans on my ‘73. One of my biggest concerns is having the measurements correct for the additional pieces that need to be welded onto the pan (seat tracks, seatbelt mounts etc...). I was thinking that if I keep the existing pan as close to being intact as I can while I remove it, I should be able to keep it as a ‘guide’ as far as where everything should be located. As an example, let’s say I have the old pan laying on the floor, my new pan is installed, and I need to locate where to place the seat track. Couldn’t I just measure the distance on the old pan using one of the floor to body bolt holes as a starting point? Then in turn, measure the same distance on the new pan? It seems like a more exact way of doing it than measuring from say the firewall. I just have this fear that there’s something I’m not taking into consideration because it seems too simple, but I figure it’s best to ask questions beforehand. I hope this makes sense, it’s kind of difficult to explain in writing. Thanks. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

How do you fit in it now? Being taller, I usually move the seat tracks rearwards about 3”.
I also install the tracks into the seat & use the seat as a jig to ensure that the tracks are aligned correctly. I also do this before the pan is installed so that I can flip the pan over to plug weld the tracks to the pan. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
