If the interior is original paint, I'd just leave it too.

It could be very carefully repaired with a small patch panel epoxied in (only way to preserve the surrounding paint, as welding would burn it and cause other problems) Then once it's secured into place you would very carefully blend in the repair... maybe use a dash of finishing filler. Sand very carefully and gently around the repair only going about 3/4 past it. The mask off very carefully and use a detail gun to paint the area. With a good paint match ( you can use the ash try to paint match) it would be an invisible repair.
