Here in the midwest we are experts on the relationship between Winter salt and old VWs, but I am not sure how bad it is to expose a bus to lots of rain. Our Spring/Summer this year is more like rainy season in Seattle than a "normal" year around here, and I am wondering how much I should worry about driving my bus in the (near constant) rain.
Generally speaking, how dangerous is plain old rain when it comes to causing cancer on a bus? _________________ 1978 7-Passenger, 37K miles

If you go to my website and see the rust damage in the photos of my bus before I had the bodywork done you'll see the damage from years of west coast rainfall:
- windshield rust
- under seals
- vent wing
- battery trays
- doors (inside them) _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

I'm on the East Coast and my rust is about the same as Ratwell's.
- windshield rust
- under seals
- vent wing
- battery trays (gone)
- doors (holes through bottom)
- throught driver's side floor
- rear hatch
- holes under rear hatch seal
- muffler (of course)
There's probably more, but I haven't done my pre-bodywork rust inspection yet... _________________ Love,

For the outside,I would keep a good coat of wax on it. For the underside, have the rust fixed and do a good rust proof job.Any rust anywhere, replace the rusty parts. Then use POR-15 and paint over that. JT |
