And here I thought the moral was to wear nitrile gloves in the shop. |

i assume you'll be de-dusting the the dust cap. important to have the top side clean for reduced spark jumps and the bottom side clean for, well, cleanliness sake.
i don't know if you'll put the RF shield on the outside, i really like running without it so that the dist cap gets cleaned each time i wash the engine. dirt and high voltage mix really well and the electrical pixies have a dance party all over the top of the cap.
i liken running without the RF shield as "running without containment" in my bad boy, Reaver mind [Serenity/Firefly reference]. _________________ -dan

Dave employs my method -- transfer the dirt from the part to your skin, then go in the house and wash. |

Most of the problems come when you inhale or ingest one of these automotive fluids and gloves will not help with those kinds of exposure, nor will gloves do anything to help if you get your clothes soaked in a fluid. At least gasoline (and thus used motor oil) no longer has lead in it which can a cause long term neurological problems.
I would guess that gloves would help the most when handling brake cleaner and other products that have solvents in them, such as the methanol mentioned for windshield washer fluid, and of course gasoline is a solvent as well along with being highly flammable and explosive.
There are lots of potential dangers out there, I worked in a shop rebuilding big truck transmissions and differentials years ago and the guy who I worked for who was only around 35 years old at the time could barely use his hands any more as he had spend so much time using hammers to drive out bearings and such and all different sizes of impact guns to loosen and tighten bolts. |
