I have pretty much that exact same Wilton vise. Its and absolute jewel.

They are damn expensive.

Here is mine in its ugly spray bomb glory as I bought it in 2013

Its a 3" "bullet" vise...I use it hard for small precise stuff...but do not grind on it.

I stripped it down to original paint and found a close match in hammertone. Mine is a 1949 from its date code.

It looks fabulous now.

This vise from Menards is pretty damn good. I have had no complaints and I use it hard.

It rolls upside down to hold round tubes. It was $69 in 2013....and has done everything I require of it for its size.

Its pretty much the same one as this Irwin model that Matt Wilson listed back o the first page of this thread...identical...both made in China.

Yep, this is my vise, made in 1943 IIRC ......

It was my Mom's 2nd husbands.
He ran a Flying A station and this was the shop vise for 60 years or so.

Love the thing!
It's beat but works better than many/most/all? New vises.

It’s the Wilton bullet and they came in different sizes. The Wilton story goes back to WW2. The govt wanted a vise that was idiot proof and indestructible. This is it and they went to all the defense contractors and military. At wars end they hit the scrap heap and were auctioned off for pennies. Wilton then started selling to public as well so there are still shit loads of these in use. Each one is date coded and you can find them cheap if you look. I’d also look for Reed brand and Anthol. Craigslist and eBay and Etsy Facebook marketplace. Etc. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2...AdAAAAABAD

So reading this you’d think these fucking things are made of gold. People know what they are and they do bring a little more however I bought one a few year ago for 45 dollars, that’s a steal. Beat the bushes they are out there.
