if you don't use the propane for the fridge, or a propex, i wouldn't bother.
i put lucy together almost 10 years ago, for our trip around the country.
we didn't plan on the fridge, and don't have a propex, we lived in lucy for about 2 years full time, in that time i have filled the tank 4 times.
in the 2 years full time, we cooked, made coffee every day almost.
the cost of that tank would have bought, a hundred or more 1lb propane bottles, i'm not sure how many 1lb bottles there are in 10 gallons of LPG, but i think l'd have been better off, buying 1lb bottles, from the start.

I replaced the Dometic with a Truckfridge, but we have a Propex and the stove of course.

The shut-off valve is leaking. Most at first opening or closing, but I realized on our camping trip last weekend that there is a constant slow leak even at full open.

I wanted to rebuild the tank with new valves, but my better half is a little freaked out by a 35 year old propane tank. So it's time to install a new one as future camping depends on her safety comfort level.

My old tank is in excellent condition with pretty much zero corrosion. I will be putting it up on the classifieds as a great candidate for a rebuild.

Vanuber, No need to replace the old tank unless it is really rusty. That tank is about 1/4" thick steel and will last forever. You can replace the valves and other fittings and have essentially a new tank again.

I ran across this source that lists a full set for Westfalia tanks.

Note that this isn't for late tanks and has no overfill device other than the little bleeder valve.

Nice. Thank you.

I buy this kit frequently you cannot beat this price by piecing it together, tried Laughing
The regulator is longer, I reflare the copper pipes to avoid mangling them.

Bus Depot has a tank from Westfalia that runs $110 cheaper with a different style regulator (is that two-stage?):

Was checking this price again tonight and Bus Depot raised their price by $110!
Also does not include the regulator, so make that $155. Now more than GW or Vancafe.

Don’t worry- they probably don’t actually have any in stock. It’s just a ruse.

Haha, yes perhaps…

It was a real fiasco buying a replacement tank. Go Westy sent one that had a severely bent bracket, suggesting I bend it out if I could. I said no thanks and they paid for return shipping. That was the only tank GW had in stock so I got a second one from Van Cafe and it arrived with parts rattling around inside. Had to return that one as well. The third tank - the replacement from Van Cafe - arrived in great shape and no rattles. Third time’s a charm. But, VC was out of stock on the regulator. So I had to order that part from GW! I am finally installing it this weekend.
