So I was hoping to hit the road more with my van, but then the 3/4 slider got in the way. I thought about throwing it out, but just couldn't bear it. Since I have learned to take every other part of my van apart, I geared up to take out the transmission now too. Our tranny has been affectionately named Manny by my family. We get great comments about him everywhere we break down. My son and I popped him out last week.
I also knew that doing the work to repair it was out of my league, so I decided to swap it with a guy named Joe in Maryland. I know, I know. Matt S blah blah blah. I tried and tried but got tired of the Soup Nazi thing. Just couldn't get him to call me back. Manny and I hit the road on Thursday afternoon, heading from MA. Stopped at Rein's Deli for Manny's final meal - turkey reuben.
Friday morning I met up with Joe, who did the colonoscopy on Manny. Good news - Ring and Pinion solid - no core charge!
Tossed the new tranny, named Danny, into the trunk, and off we went. I tried to get to know Danny a bit, but it was tough with him riding in the trunk and all. I brought him to Chik Filet but didn't seem to help
As many of you know, one of the highlights of a trip through the Northeast corridor is the NJTP
We also stopped to enjoy a view of the big city.
I thought about taking Danny to see the Statue of Liberty, but the 3 mile detour would have added 2 1/2 hours of crawling through traffic, so we decided to save it for another day.
We made good time through CT which luckily allowed us to spend some time in one of my favorite spots in New England: Hartford. For those of you that don't know, Hartford is home to some of the most fiscally successful insurance companies in the world. For all of you that keep posting all those lame shots of Jackson Hole and Moab, have a bite of this:
After a full day of killer air quality (literally) and roadside litter, Danny and I were ready to be home and unwind. We were greeted with a gorgeous sunset
Something tells me Danny and I have a bright future together.

You're never going to get anywhere with Danny until you buy him an Arby's Roast Beef Classic and a bottle of Swepco. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Maybe you introduce him to Lucy the clutch disc and turn the lights off and him the some privacy.
Just a thought.

This thread is a leading candidate for best thread of the fiscal month.
But first the jury needs to be convinced that Danny isn't just a gutted transmission case. _________________ - Jim

Touche! I've always wanted to visit Hartford, home of one of our greatest poets, Wallace Stevens.
