|
|
I just bought a 1970 Type 2 and I am readying a 2054cc to go in and I am not sure which clutch/pressure plate/throwout to get. It is stock in the rear, nothing has been changed, but not sure if these used the early or late style clutch and TO bearing.
Since it is my daily, I don't want to take the motor out until I do the swap to check. Insights?
Thanks.

Just go with the older 1970 clutch. If you try to switch to the newer 1971 you’ll be opening a can of worms. If someone talks you into a Kennedy then you’ll be opening an even bigger can of worms _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Get the Kennedy Stage 1, best investment you’ll make. It is by far my favorite upgrade I’ve ever made.
I don’t see the problem with one, it fit in my bus just fine. _________________ __________

Not much, but I’m in shape.
My engine has every upgrade you could wish for and the Kennedy is my favorite one. Smooth, doesn’t chatter, doesn’t slip and grabs the gears true every time. Weather you’re short shifting or grabbing gears at 4500 it’s perfect every shift. _________________ __________

I've used the standard clutch with an 091 tranny and 2007cc engine running duals and the standard clutch worked just fine and didn't damage the mechanical linkage or my calf. Just saying sometimes heavy clutches used for drag events, etc. can be overkill in a daily driver bus. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

A 1700 lbs clutch isn’t heavy and a standard clutch is gonna slip with a 2L stroker and a 002. 🙄
Edited post: Tommu is correct, sorry OP. _________________ __________

The best advice I’ve got is to make sure your pressure plate is balanced with the rest of your engine. Balancing an engine brings more joy than anything.
Rich - maybe take your beef out of the O/P’S thread? Seems a bit off topic. _________________ |

Thanks for the advice all... I am going to pick up a fly wheel and have it surfaced and 8 doweled to match the crank and in a week or two, I will do the swap and let you know how it goes! |
