Have roller pedal. New cable with Z type connector at pedal. cut other connector off new cable and through tub etc. How does it attach to the carb? See "barrel connector" like this but how does it attach...??

There are cable shortener kits, but I've seen a lot of people just clamp the cable into the barrel clamp. Or swap for a larger cable altogether. The shortener kits can be a hassle, and let go of the cable when you're driving, is what I've experienced. _________________ 1972 Standard Beetle

How does it attach may be issue with what carburetor system you may have....
I just put "barrel" on cable just as if it were standard throttle cable, but learned auto crossing to put second barrel on cable behind proper barrel to prevent cable from slipping out of primary barrel and gives you a limp home mode... And wire nut keeps end of cable from fraying (in case you needed to know)
Yes its for dual carburetor linkage...

I use a pc of shrink tubing over the cable where it goes through the barrel, an extra level of protection from fraying. If you hunt around there are aluminium sleeves that you can crimp on before the cable goes through the barrel.

Recently I have been playing with some vintage minibikes and cable fraying has been a constant pain.
My solution has been to cut the plastic sheathing away from a blue electrical butt connector. I use a razor blade to peel it off and you are left with a nice little metal "tube" that the cable easily slips into and can be lightly crimped on.
Its a pretty clean look. |

As a option you can tin an solder end of cable to stop fraying also...

That's a cool idea, may have to use that on a couple of motorcycles as well |

I solder the cable from the cut end up to the point where the barrel clamp screw grabs the cable. Prevents the screw from breaking the cable.
I have also soldered the end then attached a cable shortener. It gives the screw something to grab on to. _________________ Brian

I went to the Local "Ace is the Place" store and picked up a couple of small roll pins that would just slide over the cable.
Install the new cable and set the roll pin where you need it to fit where the barrel clamp will go in the throttle linkage.
I use two and overlap a bit for adjustment if needed. I then mark where it needs to go....remove cable and solder the two roll pins on the cable. Then cut excess off and you have a hardened area to clamp the cable clamp to without destroying the cable.
Cutting it to length after soldering on the roll pins makes fraying a non issue.

Just make sure it fits the cable and also fits the cable clamp. _________________

You can also pick up the aluminum caps for bicycle cables at your local bike shop, they crimp on and come in various sizes.
I soldered mine and then use a rubber end from a bungee cord hook-I run an extra large diameter cable. _________________ '56 pan Dune Buggy since '69
