This 3mm dia rod poked through the upholstery, was working its way out of the foam and finally catching on the cabinet trim. I pulled it out a few inches. When I realized it was fairly long I pushed it back into the foam.
Is this stock (I assume it is)? What function does it serve?
I figured this question was too stupid for the stupid questions thread.
Thanks. _________________ - Jim

Alrighty. Thanks. I guess this one of the mysteries of auto upholstery that keeps a Vanagon seat looking good for 30+ years. I did push it back in and will wait to see what happens.
I've been using my Westy as an office for the past year (work from home during COVID) and I'll bet this seat has gotten more use in the last year than it has in the previous 29 years. _________________ - Jim

Push it in deeper than just barely, 30-40mm works for me. They tend to work toward the left side for whatever reason. I use a small metal tube (as a guide) over a worn out and blunted #1 phillips screwdriver as a push tool. _________________ Schau in das Buch |

Thanks. I'll make sure it has a way to travel before coming out again.
It sounds like we need a special tool. Perhaps a 4mm i.d. tube made of titanium with a crimp at 20mm. It could have a scale etched on the side with a nice wood handle made from sustainable exotic hardwood oiled with blubber harvested from a whale that beached itself on the shores of Greenland under a blue moon in the year the van was manufactured.
I'll post in the luxury tools thread when I find it. _________________ - Jim
