Any ideas how much weight can be regularly carried on the parcel shelf behind the back seat on a car with no rust, etc.? I have a tool box with tools and road kit small parts that weighs 25 pounds or so. Can I leave it there without issue?

The problem isn’t what the shelf can hold, it’s what happens to the occupants when that mass continues forward when the rest of the car suddenly stops. Many people have been killed by loose objects in their cars in otherwise minor accidents.
