Hi all
I have a 72 standard Beetle which I try to get out on the road at least once a week for an hour at a time. It runs great!
But it leaks oil on the garage floor in betwen drives. Iit's a big smear on the garage floor.
I check the oil and it is over! I expect to need to add oil but I never need to.
Am I missing something? Is this transmission oil/fluid? Another source? How can it be leaking oil and the dipstick never registers the loss?
Any help is appreciated.

Smell the oil on the dipstick...........does it smell like gasoline? You may have a fuel pump going bad or a float valve sticking.

Or motor oil with gasoline contamination? Check for that too.

Taste it------if it is sweet it might be anti-freeze. |
