really don't have a good answer other than do you trust your tire size and tach. _________________

IIRC the stall speed of the torque converter is 2700 rpm so add a bit of movement to the vehicle and the engine is going to be running at 3000 rpm or higher most any time that the throttle is to the floor. The high stall speed is how you get a riding lawnmower engine to move a two ton brick. |

Those speeds seem about right. It's been a while since I've been on a long trip with this car, but it seem to me 70 mph was about 4150 rpm. I would love a lock up torque converter. |

My 1990 2.1 with automatic and 200,000 miles on the clock (trans rebuilt with 3rd owner back in 2008-ish), 15" tires with stock diameter (but slightly wider than stock):
3800 rpm = 68 mph
(Speed is via GPS.) _________________ ~Kamz

If you really wanted to be accurate:
You could double check the accuracy of your tach with a handheld unit. It comes with reflective tape, so just cut a square and stick it on the crank somewhere.
https://www.amazon.com/Neiko-20713A-Digital-Tachom...amp;sr=8-3
Have a friend hold 1000rpm, 2000rpm, 3000rpm, etc and see the % discrepancy.
Then, download a speed app on to your phone and have it run while you drive down the road and compare all your data. _________________ '87 Syncro

I would estimate that I am getting the same relationship that you are. I did not notice any change when the torque converter was replaced along with the new transmission. _________________ Eric
