The seats are different. Earlier seats have an Angeles seat spring assembly to give a slight angle for comfort. Later seats have a flatter spring assembly because the seat tracks are angled. I might be wrong, because I am learning as I go, currently. My 54 had no correct seats in it when purchased. It did have later seats which fit the original tracks. I have been buying anything that pops up, within reason, to fabricate my own front seats. I have been lucky to find a slightly decent rear seat. Needs a few springs to be replaced but overall is in okay shape.
I planned on documenting my process of dabbing the seat frames and then posting it up here. Probably within the next month or so, depending on my work load and family life! _________________ Jimbo

I fabricated a set of front seats for my 54. I made the bottoms and used later back rests. Might still have the jig.
One issue I had was the later seat springs are not the same shape as the early seats. The newer seat springs were useable but the fit could be better. _________________ 54 Bug
