I'm probably gonna regret posting this:
Every so often, I end up with enough parts to build a spec motor (for sale).
Not a contracted build. Rather a spare parts spec motor....
I have:
New stroker Mag case. Full flow, welded #3, center main shuffle pinned.
New CB 86 stroke crank/ flywheel (non wedgemated). Balanced and ready to go.
New 10mm Chromoly studs, straight cut gears, ACL rod bearings, etc..
Heads have 2 choices:
1: Used CB 044 40 x 35.5 with real nice hand porting job. 60cc chambers.
heads are lightly used, but freshend up with new valves and springs. Valve job and VW-650 spring setup.
2: Used CB Oval port heads with 44 x 37.5 valves. CNC ported, Chevy PSI 1225 springs. Used with a few chipped fins. Had a guide failure but fixed by a Pro shop. They are fresh as well.
Now the question:
I can go 2 basic ways with this motor.
1. 2387cc. I have some really old (thin ring) Wieseco pistons (like new condition) and new 94 cylinders. This could be a super torquer street motor with dual IDF/ IDA carbs and FK-8 cam (or W120).
The thin rings make it more of a weekend warrier motor with a crap load of torque. Or more top end if the Oval port heads are used.
2. 2284cc. I have a new set of 92 thick wall with JE pistons and honed to .0055" clearance for turbo use. Thicker ring pack. I also have a SLR XR 292 cam with 112LSA (for turbo use) and matching lifters.
This could work as a N/A motor, or a turbo if someone felt ambitious.
I can build either motor at this point. (or any combination of the parts listed). I have too many choices here.
Open to thoughts and ideas. Keep in mind that I am trying to use what I have and don't want to lay out a bunch of more money.
If anyone is interested in contracting me to finish it "your way". I'm all ears. |

I would use all the unpopular parts that are the hardest to sell to others. Prolly the 2284 would be a great Bus or Baja engine. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

With your 10 mm head studs and the corresponding case savers, wouldn't the cylinder spigot bore for 94's risk cutting slightly into the sides of the case savers? If you limit the bore for the 90.5 mm size and get thick-wall 92's that have cylinder bases cut for the 90.5 opening, you usually don't risk a cut-through. |

Case is already cut for 94's. (no breakout).
92 thick walls are 94 spigot already so they fit. |

Ya Know...
I've got the same problem...
Except with an 86mm flanged crank, all type IV mains, Mag case cut for 94's, CNC wedge ports, Weisco's, K-8's, K-10's, fk87's, fk89, fk98...
also some super flows, some old jon karcey's/PB heads and a couple other cranks and prepped cases...
Oh...and let's not forget about a set of NEW 50 X 38 910 heads ported by heads up for a project I can't seem to get to...
Thing is, I've got more engines and parts than I have cars to run them in
I guess it's a good problem to have |

go with the 2387cc though with the oval ports..
with the k8 is will be a fairly nice street engine.
probably run a lighter spring though... |

Heads are already cut for chevy springs. I can set them up with less seat pressure thou. |

I like the 2386/ovals/fk8 idea as well. Killer engine for a beetle _________________ drive your split. |
