Guys,
Very soon I may be installing a 1600dp into a 1965 beetle. I’m looking for a source for the captured nut to install for the drivers side upper mount bolt. With the doghouse cooler it will be very difficult to get a regular nut on there. The engine will have a 180mm flywheel so mating shouldn’t be a problem other than that one bolt. Thanks

Engine Case Nut Insert Captive Nut press-in nut
https://www.wolfgangint.com/store/product/engine-case-nut-insert-111199102/
Part #111 199 102

I found that with the two small front doghouse tins removed (10mm wrench) that I could access a regular nut in that location with Mr. 17mm wrench, wasn't too difficult.

The next issue you will most likely run into is, since that bolt is to have a nut tightened onto it from the engine side originally in 1965, the casting of the transaxle captures the head of the bolt so that it doesn’t spin. I’ve always used a 10mm head washer, or the like to space the head of the bolt past the hex captured part, but someone in the gallery had an unique idea to drill out the threads of a thin jamb nut to use as a spacer.

Use a M10x70 allen head bolt with a washer.

That would work well also.

I’m more a fan of a hex bolt/socket with an extension/swivel.

I find the Allen head hold the bit in and doesn't flop off like a socket.
