I am replacing the bushings and boots on shift rod while transmission is removed on VW type 2 bay. I have the bushings (3) fasten along the shift rod, but where do I fasten the boots and how do they stay in place? |

Let’s see, you install the aft boot and then slide the rod through the tube. Then install the forward boot. The circumference of the tube holds the boots in place. A person could use rtv to help hold them and silicone grease on the rod so they slide _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

if you bought a bushing kit, possible that not every bushing in the kit is used. some kits are made for both early and late and have parts for both in them. |
