My fairly stock good condition '64 bug has adjusters welded into the beams. It was done by FAT Performance years ago. Much later I had disc brakes installed by Old Speed. The front end does have a camber shim installed.

My bug stops well but the front end feels crappy. I don't expect my link pin front end to drive as well as a ball joint one but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with raising the adjusters back to stock height and then adding in lowered spindles?

I did try searching the forum and found lots of threads but not this one specifically.

-My car is not lowered in the rear.
-Front shocks are stock style - not gas shocks and not specifically lowered shocks.
-The car is not lowered a lot.
-I think the front end components are in generally pretty nice condition but am willing to have it looked at by a specialist if needed.
-I use 145 x 15 tires on the front on 4 1/2" chrome Porsche style rims

What I'm hoping to do is to get a more stock feeling suspension/steering without raising the front. (remember, it is not lowered much) Are there lowered spindles that don't add track width to the front? Am I going down the right path to get a better feeling front end? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Chuey

When was the last time you pumped some grease into the beam & king pins?

X2 on the grease and air pressure. Also, some drop spindles don’t work with some disc brake kits... keep that in mind.

Thanks for the replies. The car hasn't been driven much in the last quite a few years. I'm pretty scared of texting drivers hitting me from behind. I mention that because it is a good question as to how long it has been since it has been greased.

The air pressure is super sensitive but I now have 30psi in the tires.

I'll try the grease before doing anything drastic.

Thanks again, Chuey

Air pressure for a stock front tire size is 16-17 lbs. a smaller tire might need a little less. I’d try 15-16 PSI and see how it rides. These cars are so light, they really don’t need much pressure. 165R15 rear tires use 24-26 PSI.

Yeah, 30psi and it’ll feel driving like an ox cart... drop the pressure and perhaps a little front end maintenance and sounds like you’ll be golden.
